Do Me a Favor....

The Question I Get Asked All The Time...

What should we do for wedding favors?

Ok, here's the deal. 99% of the time, your wedding favors are either going to be left behind, or thrown out once our guests get home. In my opinion, favors are often a waste of money! If you are looking for a place to cut costs - maybe don't do favors at all!
If you insist on giving guests a little something to say 'thank you', here are my recommendations:

Make a Donation in the Guest's Name...
Do you have a favorite charity? An organization that means something to you, personally? Make a small donation in each guest's name to the charity of your choice, then at each place setting, give them something in writing, thanking them for attending, and letting them know that a donation has been made in their name! Guests will appreciate this much more than a bottle opener with your name on it...I promise!

Edible is Always the Answer!
Something that guests can eat is ALWAYS a good idea! Most guests will eat their favor at your wedding, which is totally fine! Give them something to sober up, or just a sweet treat for the end of the night, or the car ride home! Packaged cookies with your names on them are always a fun idea. They help decorate your table, and add a little personalization.
PRO TIP: See if the bakery that is doing your cake does personalized cookies as well. Ordering multiple things from the same vendor can sometimes be more cost effective. If you are already getting a cake from them, maybe they will do the cookies discounted as a package. Plus, it is one less vendor for you to deal with!

Hangover Helper
Your guests are going to have a good time at your wedding, but some may have a bit TOO much fun. On the way out the door, have a basket of hangover kits for your guests to grab for the next day! Include things like Advil, Pedialyte Packets, Eyedrops, Tums, etc. You could even include a mini bottle of champagne - hair of the dog, anyone? Your guests will appreciate this in the morning, especially if they are from out of town and won't be in their own home with access to their medicine cabinets. You can also include in this kit things like an invite to brunch the next morning (if you are having one) or ideas for breakfast spots. If you want to be more subtle, leave the hangover kits in the guests hotel rooms!

A Night Cap
The bar usually slows down by the end of the night, but you can always offer your guests a night cap as a favor. A mini bottle of liquor, or even wine, can be a fun favor. Most guests will end up drinking this favor during the wedding, but hey, they are going to be drinking anyway. You could always have mini booze bottles at the door, or passed around during the last hour of your event. You can personalize mini bottles with your name and date, and make them a cute keepsake as well. Pick something that is special to you as a couple to make it personal!

Like many other wedding traditions and trends, favors are becoming a thing of the past. Most likely, if you skip the wedding favors, your guests won't even notice. However, any of the above items add a nice touch, and are a great way to thank your guests for coming to your special celebration. Do yourself a favor, and make it easy!

Fads that are Fading Out T he first thing that you need to understand when you start planning is that it is YOUR wedding! Any question that you have regarding what you can and should do should be answered with a YES! It's your day, and your wedding can be any style you want featuring any traditions you want, and excluding any you don't want! I get a lot of questions regarding traditions or "norms" and whether you HAVE to do them. For many of these questions, the answer is no! Here are some examples of fads and traditions that are fading out, and not necessary to include in YOUR day! THE BOUQUET TOSS The bouquet and garter toss is a tradition that has been going on since Medieval Times! Brides used to toss a piece of their dress to the unmarried women at the wedding as good luck to the next lucky bride. As dresses became more expensive, brides began to toss their bouquets instead. This tradition has fizzled out for many reasons. At many weddings, the femal

Centerpieces

Centerpiece secrets...shh! Centerpieces are a huge part of your ceremony. But, they are also a huge part of your budget! There are a lot of ways to budget your centerpieces and a lot of secrets to making a statement without blowing your budget! Secret #1: Less is More Ok, so you want colorful, gorgeous centerpieces, but you want them low cost... Here's a fabulous idea! These are actually from a wedding I helped with last summer. The idea is, you are only paying for 5 flowers (gerbera daisies too which are fairly inexpensive!) but by putting them each in their own vase, you cover a lot more table and have a much larger, statement making centerpiece! You could do all the same color, all different, whatever you want! And I love the larger gerbera in the middle- really gives it some height! Here's another similar centerpiece. This features three different flowers: hydrangea, gerbera daisy, and a few mini roses. We also sprinkled some shells and sea glass on the tabl
